Mexico radio stations will now be transmitting in HD.

COFETEL, Mexico’s Federal Telecommunication Commission, recently selected HD radio technology to serve as the digital radio standard for both AM and FM radio. Robert Struble, President and CEO of iBiquity, made statements in regard to the announcement and proclaimed his company’s IBOC system or In Band On Channel system as, “the right technology to upgrade the Mexican radio industry to a digital platform.” HD radio will provide Mexican listeners with a wide variety of innovative services that they were not previously exposed to with normal radio service.

As the President and CEO of iBiquity mentioned, “The global importance of the Mexico economy and this development represents major progress toward a common digital radio standard in North America.”

See what the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, had to say in response to this new technological upgrade.
